Content Protection (Anti-Copy)
Content protection raises the friction for competitors trying to copy your product descriptions, images, and design. Not a hard security boundary — a real human can still photograph the screen — but it stops casual copy-paste.
Available in the Premium plan and above.
Enable content protection
- Open Content Protection.
- Toggle each setting independently:
- Protect content — disable text/image selection
- Deactivate right click — disable right-click menu
- Deactivate shortcut — block Ctrl+S, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Shift+I, F12
- Deactivate inspect — block developer tools shortcuts
- Save.
What gets blocked
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Right-click | Context menu disabled |
| Ctrl+C (copy) | Clipboard write blocked |
| Ctrl+S (save page) | Save dialog blocked |
| Ctrl+Shift+I | DevTools shortcut blocked |
| Ctrl+Shift+J | Console shortcut blocked |
| F12 | DevTools key blocked |
| Drag image | Drag prevented |
| Text selection | Selection disabled |
Per-page rules
Apply to specific page types:
- Product pages only
- Collection pages
- All storefront pages
- Exclude specific URLs (e.g. blog posts you want shareable)
SEO and accessibility considerations
Content protection can interfere with:
- Browser accessibility tools (screen readers)
- Translate features (Google Translate, mobile)
- Legitimate user clipboard needs
For accessibility-sensitive stores, use selective protection — only on product images, not text.
Best practices
- Apply on product pages, allow on blog (blog is supposed to be shareable).
- Combine with
to prevent Google from caching content excerpts. - Watermark product images server-side for additional protection.
- Use Shieldy's Spy extensions blocker in parallel — extensions bypass DOM-level protections.
