Fraud Order Filter Setup

Shopify shows a risk indicator on every order but never acts on it automatically. Shieldy's Fraud Order Filter applies your auto-cancel rules the moment an order hits the queue.

Enable auto-cancel

  1. Open Fraud Order Filter.
  2. Toggle Auto-block fraud orders to ON.
  3. Set Fraud order score starts at: default 0.7 (high risk only).
  4. Choose action: Cancel order, Mark as Fraud, or both.
  5. Optional: enable inventory restock.
  6. Save.

Within seconds of order creation, matching orders are cancelled and inventory restocked.

Start conservative (0.75) and lower over time.

What signals contribute to the score

  • IP reputation and geolocation
  • Billing vs shipping address mismatch
  • Email domain reputation
  • AVS / CVV result
  • Device fingerprint correlation
  • VPN/Proxy/Tor detection (adds 0.2-0.4)
  • Previous chargebacks
  • Order velocity (multiple orders from same IP/email)

Pair with pre-checkout rules

Auto-cancel is reactive. For full coverage, combine with pre-checkout blocks:

  • Block VPN/Proxy at checkout
  • Block specific email patterns (e.g. *@tempmail.com)
  • Block phone prefixes
  • Block ZIP codes you do not ship to
  • Auto-block orders with subtotal below $5 (card-test pattern)

Whitelist exceptions

To avoid false positives, whitelist:

  • VIP customer IDs
  • B2B customer tags
  • Subscription renewal orders
  • Gift orders (tag during checkout)
